Audrey & Grace
Column by M.J.Silva

It’s a worldwide known certainty that perfect relationship after perfect relationship, remarkable breakup after remarkable breakup, all women, no matter what eye color, career choice or shoe size, are in search of only one thing. A four letter word that got the world into the extraordinary mess it is today.
L-O-V-E.
Love.

Grace grinned proudly and leaned back against the dark straw chair with both hands behind her head.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
She looked outside, admiring the view beyond the French bay windows.
She searched for inspiration on the crystal chandelier up on the ceiling before facing her laptop screen again.
Twisting her lip frantically, Grace threw a threatening look at the blinking cursor on the screen. She needed to wrap that up brilliantly. She bit her lower lip, narrowed her eyes, nodded naughtily and finally heard angels chanting inside her mind.
Yes.
That would be her ticket into the editorial world. A zinger hook. Visual. Teasing. Tantalizing. Or at least she hoped so. She felt like a yuppie analyzing sales reports.
Oh well.
When she was finally done with pattering her fingers on the keys, Grace attacked the keyboard for her grand finale. She shrugged, tilted her head forward and smiled innocently at the screen.
Well, at least the grand finale of the beginning of her article.

And women that tell you that they aren’t looking for love, well, you better watch out. They’re lying to their teeth.

However, five years ago, Grace Waldorf wasn’t one of those women. She was young, beautiful, but no, Grace wasn’t lying. And she wasn’t looking for love, either.
Not actively, anyway.
And she had pretty good reasons not to be looking for love. She had already found it. Better yet, love had found her.
Multiple times in twenty three years, really…
But like all the other times, this time was different.
One night, one of her best male friends, Howie, was having dinner with his old college friend Joe McQueen and invited Grace to join them for coffee after the meal.
There she went, comfortably driving her dark olive green Range Rover down to the center of town, anxious to meet this amazing guy – according to Howie – that she’d been hearing so much about for the last six years, as the rightest, most perfect man on the face of the earth for a woman.
When she arrived, Joe had his back facing the door. Howie waved at her with his friendly smile when he saw her through the glass. He mentioned something to Joe. It must have been something interesting because before Grace said anything…
BAM.
There he was.
Joe McQueen. A relaxed city financial analyst, with gorgeous brown hair, deep dark brown eyes and, as Grace learned later, with a huge passion for marathons. And the scent of his warm perfume against his skin and his face… just out of this world gorgeous.
Yes, love had found Grace Waldorf. Exactly between the first hello and Howie’s visit to the men’s room, ten minutes later.

Joe was gorgeous, intelligent and sensitive. Incredibly sexy. All the great ingredients for Grace to fall head over heels. He had this mysterious charm that instantly swept her off her feet.

Rita had a problem with Grace. Rita envied Grace. And everybody knows that envy is much, much worse that hate.
