Come Back To Me

I

remember hearing  that once an artist releases a piece of art into the world, it’s no longer theirs. The art piece becomes its listeners. Its viewers. And that happens in all art forms. And in music in a very special and incredibly unique way.
And that same thought emerged the moment I heard the first chords streaming out of his guitar. Come Back To Me is american singer and composer Elliott Taylor’s new song.

After releasing the powerful Let It Out, Taylor comes back with a new song that will for sure be talked about for times to come.

When we listen to a song, we relate to it according to our own truth, right? We listen and interpret the lyrics and the melody according to our own experiences. Our own feelings. To a moment or life milestone. To our own NOW’s.

And that’s the unbelievable magic of art. The super power of music.

If  paper and words could play a melody and a tune, Come Back To Me would be the song you’d be hearing as you’re reading these words. (Click the pic below to listen now)

In a version Elliott Taylor performs with his partner Skylar Grey, their voices enter softly after the streaming of the first chords of the guitar. And inevitably a chill runs up and down your spine. And then up again. There’s some sort of profound complexness in the simplicity of the song that makes the melody, the lyrics and the voices come together in perfect union.

Their voices. Two soft voices that gradually fill the gaps left blank by the pure sound of the melody. Authentic. Clean. Flawless. Almost in a whisper calling: Come… Back To Me…

Come Back To Me develops beautifully as the melody and Taylor’s and Grey’s voices align in this magical duet that hopes. And cries. And grows. Towards somewhere. Or someone.
Distant. And yet not far. Yet so close inside the heart. A gently cry that is present in every note, chord and harmony. In every breath. In every thought. In every soft fingering.

Come Back To Me is a love letter. To a place. Where you long to be. Or to someone. Who you long to be with.

A ballad about the complexities of distance. And LOVE. And how heartbreaking can waiting be? Being on hold when you want to go (back) to the warmth of that place that IS home. Of that someone who you  feel IS home.

How many times have you said the same words when you left a place you fell in love with at first - or second - sight? A place that IS home to you? How many times have you murmured the same words when you looked into the eyes of someone that you just know IS  home and who you have to let go for some reason? That someone you shake hands for the first time and you feel HOME and you have to say goodbye - even if only for a sweeping moment?

Come Back To Me is ultimatly a song about what unconditional love is. About love that transcends distance. Love that surpasses time. Love that waits. Even if encompassed by heartbreak, by sorrow. All in the breathtaking simplicity, in the authenticity of Elliott’s and Grey’s voices.

When you start listening to the first chords on the guitar, you know. You just know. You feel it.

It’s true you’ll hear their voices. But you’ll also hear the yearnings of your own heart. The whisper of your own soul. And you’ll feel your own heart being torn out of your chest, but at the same time you’ll feel like holding on to the serenity of the freedom that true love offers. Love that resists space, time and all the inherent complexities distance brings.

A love – a place, someone - that’s waiting for you. As you’re waiting for them. And that is seeking you. As you're seeking them. Until you’re finally face to face. Heart to heart. Taking it all in.
An everything will finally be as it’s meant to be. As it’s always been meant to be. And you realize how worthy the waiting was. Because you know that's where you belong.

And before you arrive, you’re connected through the magical thread of the soul. The magical thread of LOVE.

Come Back To Me and Let It Out could easily be the soundtracks of our lives. Somewhere in time. Or even right now.
